Getting Back in Routine

What a timely post this was...coming only hours after I penned a new schedule for myself and the kids. We really needed one now that the baby is 4 1/2 months old and on a solid routine herself. I am even more encouraged to stick with it and am posting the morning routine for all to see just for the accountability alone! While I am contemplating what "live frog" to eat each morning I am going to work through this morning routine:
  • 6:30 Wake and feed Meara and have coffee with Eric
  • 7:00 Quick check email and create new posts
  • 7:30 Kids up, breakfast & laundry in
  • 8:00 Shower, get ready, switch laundry, Meara to nap
  • 9:00 Start school with Bible

Thanks for reading and feel free to ask how it's going! My husband and I are hopefully working through our personal and family goals this weekend, another post for accountabiliby.

I wish I could sit and have coffee with my guy. Unfortunately we're on two different schedules because he works graveyard shifts. So when I rise and drink my coffee, he is settling into bed for his night. Other than being a little jealous =P Your morning routine looks great!

Okay - so I have to ask - how did you get your little one on a solid routine at 4 1/2 months old? My little Sugarplum is 11 months old and we still have fluctuating routines with her. It will stay steady for a little bit and then change again somehow. She just recently got back more to her usual routine. But in the last couple of days she has started not napping in the afternoon. If it's possible to get them on a routine, I am all ears! I'd love to know how to!!! I am such a routine person so I have been learning LOTS of flexibility! :)

Hope you have a great week!

Karen,
We generally follow the recommendations from the book Babywise. We started using this method of routine when my now 7yr old son was 4 months old and it worked in three nights with him. We started our oldest daughter now five from birth and she was sleeping through the night and very happy by 8 weeks old to our surprise. With the holidays and lots of travel it has taken us four months to get this little one on a decent schedule...mostly because I wasn't on one :0) I will say however that you make adjustments every couple of months and both of my older two were down to only one long nap (2 1/2 - 3 hours) in the afternoon by 14-15 months. Does that help at all???

Thanks. I found a blog for Babywise. I already did some reading. It just seems to me that 1.5 hours for a nap for the whole day is not enough for a little one. When she doesn't take her afternoon nap, she's cranky by 4:30pm or so. I'm afraid if I put her down at that point, she'll sleep until midnight or so and want to get up for awhile. I tried that once before and put her down for a nap when she got cranky. She slept through her bedtime and got up at a different time. (I can't remember what time it was but it seems it was late like midnight to 2am.) So I thought I probably shouldn't do that again. But as it stands, we've tried to keep her up until 6:00pm and she still has gotten up the last two mornings around 3am. In fact, she woke up about 3am this morning and I just now laid her back down (3:48am). Any suggestions? I don't have the Babywise book and probably won't be able to get it for awhile. The blog has posts but so far I'm not seeing exactly steps to implement really. So if you can and are willing, I'd love if you can offer suggestions on how to work on that routine.

Thanks so much!
Karen
